KANNUR: CPM general secretary Prakash Karat has said that if any of the party men were found to be associated with or involved in the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, the party would take stern action against them. Inaugurating the death anniversary of E K Nayanar at Kalliassery here on Saturday, Prakash Karat said the murder of TP Chandrasekharan was a heinous crime and the CPM had condemned it unreservedly. He said that the Congress, the UDF and a section of the media were using the murder to launch a vicious campaign against the CPM. He added that a fair and impartial investigation was necessary to nab the culprits. The CPM general secretary said that the manner of the investigation into the murder had shown that there had been frequent interference in the investigation. He said that the Union Minister of state for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran and the UDF ministers in the state were brazenly interfering with and influencing the course of the probe.“Statements being made by Mullappally and the Home minister of the state were enough to prove the interference with the investigation of the murder. He said that the Congress leadership was trying to reap political benefit from the campaign against the CPM raising the murder issue. The slanderous campaign launched by the Congress and the UDF had already been rebuffed and rejected by the CPM. The CPM doesn’t believe in using weapons against political opponents and its greatest weapon is the Marxist ideology, he said. He said that a concerted and motivated campaign was being carried out by the Congress and UDF to malign the CPM and that the party would resist the campaign with the support of the people.Karat said that the ongoing efforts to defame the party would be resisted through democratic means mobilising the people. The death anniversary programmes began with the CPM leaders offering floral tributes at the memorial column built for Nayanar at Payyambalam.A red volunteers march and a demonstration were held as part of the memorial programmes at Kalliassery. CPM leaders E P Jayarajan, M V Govindan, P Karunakaran MP, and P Jayarjan addressed the meeting.
