KOCHI: Kerala Catholic Bishops Council(KCBC) president Mar Andrews Thazhath has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, demanding an immediate solution on the Mullaperiyar issue. The memorandum seeks urgent steps from the Union Government to ensure safety for the life and property of 35 lakh people living under the threat of a dam burst, to reduce the water level to 120 feet and the initiative of the Centre for talks between Kerala and Tamil Nadu towards constructing a new dam without affecting the harmony between people of the two states. Announcing its solidarity on Mullaperiyar agitation, a KCBC team will visit the dam area and address the people engaged in the agitation for a new dam. The team will include Major Archbishop of Syro-Malabar Church Mar George Alenchery, Thrissur Archbishop and KCBC president Mar Andrews Thazhath.
