One more person who is accused of abducting and assaulting a noted Malayalam actress was taken into custody on Tuesday, police sources said, adding he has confessed that the crime was committed with an aim to extort money.
Manikandan who was allegedly inside the car during the crime told the police that the gang intended to record the act and use it to blackmail her.
He claimed the plot was hatched by the main accused Sunil Kumar, known as Pulsar Suni, and that he was in it only for the money. Sunil is absconding and police anticipate he may surrender in court
Police sources said they would also look into a possible conspiracy angle as part of the investigation. Sunil's call records are being examined and there were unconfirmed reports that he made calls to people in the film industry immediately after the crime.
So far, three persons--Vadival Salim, Pradeep and Martin--have been arrested in connection with the case.
Forensic experts have collected evidence from the car in which the actress was allegedly assaulted for two hours by the gang members who forced their way into the vehicle on Friday night.
