New Delhi: Jharkhand government on Sunday night ordered a CBI probe into the gunning down of JMM MP Sunil Mahato by Naxals near Jamshedpur.
"This a tragic incident which, no doubt, has been perpetrated by Naxals and a CBI probe will be recommended," Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda said after presiding over a meeting with senior officials.
Asked what could be the reason behind the killing, the Chief Minister said it was a matter of probe but all pointers indicate Naxals handiwork.
He also replied the same to another query if it could be a extortion demand by Naxals from Mahato.
Stating that the incident occurred at Bakudia under Ghatsilla police station in East Singhbhum district, Koda said a havildar and a constable, who had accompanied Mahato as bodyguards, and a civilian were killed in the indiscriminate firing.
On JMM's statewide bandh called on Monday, Koda said, "Not only JMM, other leaders have also been hurt by the death of Mahato who was a people's representative in the Lok Sabha".
Meanwhile, Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi summoned Koda on Monday to apprise him on the killing of Mahato.
"The Governor has summoned the Chief Minister at 0900 hrs, IST on Monday. The Governor also asked him to come with a detailed report regarding the brutal killing of the Lok Sabha member Sunil Mahato," PTI quoted a Raj Bhavan spokesman saying.
Expressing his heartfelt condolence, the Governor described the act, as cowardice and such violence would not bring any solution.
