New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought a detailed report after Kolkata Air Traffic Control (ATC) reportedly lost contact with at least 300 aircraft for a few minutes on Thursday morning due to a temporary link failure.
Sources said the link was down for over an hour and the ATC managed the situation by informing some pilots who then started coordinating with other pilots. It was learnt that the Kolkata ATC also sought help from Nagpur and Varanasi ATCs to track the aircraft.
Also, the pilots were asked to maintain space between the planes to prevent any untoward incident.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) denied there was any major air scare at Kolkata airport following the communications failure between the ATC and some aircraft in mid-air.
"There was no safety issue,"an AAI official said.
