The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday summoned four post-graduate trainee doctors and the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for questioning in the case linked with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in the medical facility on August 9.

The investigative agency’s Special Crime Branch summoned them in the CGO complex, Salt Lake, Kolkata and would interrogate them regarding what happened the night of the incident, news agency PTI reported.
The CBI would also quiz college’s former principal Sandip Ghosh and the arrested accused Sanjoy Roy and took him for medical examination while taking his custody. The Kolkata Police arrested Roy, a civic volunteer, on Saturday and was sent to 14-day police custody. The accused was charged under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of BNS and was produced before Sealdah court, which remanded him to police custody till August 23.
Meanwhile, Ghosh approached Calcutta High Court on Friday seeking protection, claiming that he has a life threat. The Court has asked the State to provide him Police protection. Court has asked his counsel to file a separate affidavit if anything else needs to be mentioned or any other claims.
The case pertains to the rape and murder of a second-year PG woman trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the midnight of August 9 which shook the entire nation.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over the vandalism of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises which took place on the night of August 14 during a midnight protest against the rape and murder incident, calling it an “absolute failure of state machinery.”
Some initial reports suggested that the case has been handed over to CBI, but police sources told News18 in the afternoon that no such thing has happened so far.
Amid the ongoing protests over the horrendous crime, around 40-50 miscreants entered the premises of state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during early hours of Thursday and vandalised portions of the medical facility, where the body of the victim was found. The Kolkata Police, meanwhile, arrested 19 people and detained three for the vandalism incident.
CBI speaks to victim’s family:
Earlier on Thursday, the CBI officials visited the residence of the victim and spoke to her parents as a part of their investigation. The investigators took note of the time they received the call from the hospital, informing them about the death of their daughter, he said.

The officers also asked them about their daughter’s friends, and whether she complained of any problems at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital where she was a postgraduate trainee doctor, he added.
“It was difficult to speak to a couple who have lost their daughter in such a manner,” the officer said.
The probe agency also interrogated five doctors of the hospital, its former medical superintendent-cum-vice-principal (MSVP), principal and the head of the Chest Department where the victim’s body was found.
Calcutta High Court transfers probe:
After five days of the gruesome incident, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of probe from the Kolkata Police to CBI.
The CBI took over the investigation and a team of the agency sleuths from Delhi, along with forensic scientists and medical experts, visited Kolkata on Wednesday. The direction was passed in the wake of a petition moved by the victim’s parents urging for a court-monitored probe and multiple other PILs seeking probe transfer to the CBI.
Meanwhile, Doctors across the nation intensified their protests over the horrendous crime. Junior doctors and medical students across the hospitals and medical colleges in Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad and other cities staged a protest demanding speedy justice.
