Kovai hospital administration given to ESI Corporation
Kovai hospital administration given to ESI Corporation

The State government has handed over the administration of the ESI Hospital at Coimbatore to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation to facilitate smooth commissioning and running of a medical college at the ESI hospital from the next academic year. The move would avoid duality of administrative control.

The college, to be started by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, will have an intake of 100 students annually.

The State government has issued orders for handing over the administration to Employees’ State Insurance Corporation on July 4 with the following conditions: 1) the existing staff may be permitted to exercise one-time option for absorption into ESI corporation subject to usual terms and conditions. 2) 65 per cent of the seats should be allotted to the State government for admission to MBBS course and 3) the Director of Medical and Rural Health Services may decide on the issue of absorption of the existing medical/para-medical and administration staff of the ESI Hospital.
