KPCC chief to embark on Gandhi Gramam from October 2

KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala is embarking on a ‘Gandhi Gramam’ programme, leading a collective leadership of the downtrodden sections of society to a select Scheduled Caste colony in each district of the state, beginning on October 2. The programme will be launched in  Kunnathukadu SC colony in Mala Assembly segment, on Gandhi Jayanthi day.

 The initiative of the KPCC president after a recent first-hand experience in the tribal hamlets of Attapadi, has the declared objective of finding the root cause for the continuing neglect and poor living conditions of the Scheduled Caste community. ‘’There are many reasons for it and governments from time to time had not been able to bring about the desired changes. Crores of rupees were being allotted by the central and state governments through various schemes. However, the condition of SC category people have remained more or less the same and the funds had not yielded the desired results,’’  Ramesh Chennithala told a press conference here on Saturday.

‘’I’ll spend a whole day in each of the colonies. Kunnathunad MLA V P Sajeendran is the coordinator of the programme. Most of the colonies selected are in the constituencies of LDF MLAs. I’ve written to them and prominent leaders cutting across  party lines inviting them to participate in the programme,’’ Chennithala said.

The visit to the colonies will be followed by a socio-economic survey and based on it a comprehensive report will be prepared  and submitted to the State Government for immediate action, he said.  The 14 Gandhi Gramams will become the epicentres to chart out a broad programme to streamline various policies and programmes earmarked for them.

Appolo Colony (Andoorkonam grama panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram), Kurumbakara (Kunnathoor, Kollam), Kaniyampbra (Neelamperoor, Kuttanad), Pandimalappuram (Kadambanad, Pathanamthitta), Chandramala (Veloor, Kottayam), Chillithode(Adimali, Idukki), Chakkiyathmala (Kunnathnadu, Ernakulam), Pookadankunnu (Pilayoor, Palakkad), Thayyilmeter (Atholi, Kozhikode), A R Nagar (Malappuram), Chiyambayam (Puthupadi, Wayanad), Vaniyappara (Ayyamkunnu, Kannur) and Badiyadukka (Enkamaje, Kasargod) are the destinations where the KPCC chief and team will be heading for.
