THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KSEB has launched a spirited search for the e-savvy among its 28,000-plus employees. Planning to strengthen its IT ‘backbone’, the soon-to-be-company KSEB is on the look-out for staffers whose e-world skills have remained unexploited. On the advice of the Chief Engineer (Projects) and Safety Commissioner, the Board management has constituted a committee for selecting the required personnel and revising staff strength in its IT wing. The committee will select system administrators, programmers, personnel required to man helpdesks, GIS asset mapping staff and system supervisors, according to an order issued on May 5.“The basic idea is to strengthen our IT backbone, with more and more KSEB services and applications going online,” said Chief Engineer (Projects) and Safety Commissioner Angus Sudley Cardoza. “For example, we are planning to upgrade the ‘Oruma’ software developed by our own staff years ago to Oruma-Net. Also, the KSEB is planning to introduce facilities such as anywhere payment facilities across the state. For all these, we require additional staff in the IT wing at the district- level. It’s a long-term process,” he said.IT plays an important role in many of the Centrally-sponsored schemes, including the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP).The decision to harvest hidden KSEB potential arose from the understanding that many staffers held IT qualifications.
