PALAKKAD: Mridangam maestro Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan, who had entered the Guiness Book of World Records with his nonstop 501-hour mridangam yajnam, is now on to enacting the role of a professional mridangam player in the film ‘Neerajanam’ which is expected to be released in December.The film, set in the background of the Palakkad agraharams, tells the story of a father and son and at the same time  that of a guru and a shishya.Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan is donning the role of the son Ramakrishna. The father’s character, Krishnamoorthy, is played by Madhava Warrier. Anubala, a research student of Kerala Kalamandalam, is the heroine. The story is an adaptation of a book penned by Manoj Kumar,a disciple of Ramakrishnan. The script is by Jayakanth. “The film will convey a message that artistes should not nurse  enmity,” Ramakrishnan said. “Though the traditional musicians do not subscribe to fusion music, with the change in the attitude of the younger generation it  has also been incorporated in the film,” said Kuzhalmannam Ramakrishnan . V K Unnikrishnan and R Asokan Pathnapuram are the director and producer of the film respectively.“There were also takes from musicians Dakshinamoorthy Swamigal, M S Viswanathan, dancers V P Dhananjayan and Shantha Dhananjayan and Padmavibhushan Umayalpuram Sivaraman in the film on the importance of Guru-shishya relationship,”said V K Unnikrishnan.
