THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an unprecedented turn of events in the history of Kerala Assembly, utter chaos prevailed on Friday after a scuffle broke out between the Opposition members and watch and ward staff. A woman staff member and CPM members T V Rajesh and K K Lathika were injured. The trouble broke out after the Opposition members rushed to the well of the House demanding tabling of the DGP’s report on Kozhikode police firing in the Assembly. While the ruling front alleged that T V Rajesh and James Mathew manhandled the women watch and ward staff, the Opposition leaders complained that two of their members Rajesh and Lathika were manhandled by the watch and ward staff.Pandemonium prevailed when the watch and ward staff formed a human shield to protect the Speaker after the Opposition members who rushed to the well of the House tried to barge into the Speaker’s podium demanding action against the police official who had opened fire at students in Kozhikode recently.The woman watch and ward member Rajani Kumari, who was injured in the scuffle, was admitted to the General Hospital. She filed a complaint with the Speaker alleging that Rajesh and James Mathew had manhandled her. However, LDF members filed a separate complaint before the Speaker alleging that their members were attacked by the watch and ward, while the UDF benches demanded the suspension of Rajesh and James Mathew.
