Srinagar: A self-styled district commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was among three terrorists killed in a gunbattle with the police at Mirhama-Kulgam village in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Acting on a tip-off, police got inmates of a house where the terrorists were hiding last evening evacuated.

The terrorists inside fired at the police who retaliated, killing all the three, Superintendent of Police (Kulgam) S P Pani said.

The terrorists have been identified as 'district commander' of LeT, Abu Qasif alias Gori of Pakistan, Muneer Ahmad Ganai, a resident of Marwah Dachan of Jammu and Fayaz Ahmad Rather of Harshiwan-Sopore of Baramulla district, he said.

Pani said Abu Qasif had become the district commander of the outfit after the elimination of Abu Rehman in May, this year.

The diary recovered from him revealed his involvement in the suicidal attack in Kautha.

Two AK rifles besides ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter, the SP said.

He added that the elimination of these terrorists was a significant blow to the LeT as in the last three months, it has lost three district commanders - Abu Assama in month of April, Abu Rehman in May and now Abu Qasif in June.
