VELLORE: A forest guard attached to the Gudiyattam Range single-handedly chased a mini-van containing 1.5 tonnes of red sander logs for nearly two kilo metres on Thursday and seized it. The red sanders were about to be smuggled into Gudiyattam from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. Bhoopathy was posted at the inter-state forest department checkpost on the outskirts of Paradarami. The forest guard tried to stop the vehicle at the check post, but the driver smashed down the checkpost and sped away. The forest guard chased the vehicle on his two-wheeler for nearly two km, said a forest department official.As there was movement of people on either side of the road, the van was forced to slow down. He abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot. On inspecting the vehicle, the forest guard found 62 red sander logs.
