Though there are many legends about the St. Valentine. All of them do confirm one thing though that he was a Priest full of love who served during the third century in Rome. Man!! wouldn't he be a very rich man only if he had patented his name. 14 February is that time of the year when suddenly boys and girls decide it's mandatory to express love. Like most of the things in life 'romance' especially on this day costs a lot of money. Whatever happened to writing letters, poetry or recording each other's romantic songs on a tape or a CD? Maybe that doest happen anymore coz everything is pre packaged to suit your convenience or pocket. Whether its your girlfriend or wife, its almost as if you are expected to celebrate this day. Has life become so artificial that we have to wait for certain days to express love for each other in a special way or is it that we all do it all year through just this day is like a Trade Fair of love where merchants of romance make a lot of money by creating so much pressure that practically the lovers of love are induced into leaving homes with loaded wallets. And not to mention the pressure of finding a date before valentine so that your friends don't think you are a loser or doing something really special for someone special by buying expensive gifts and dinner so it can justify their lack of imagination. Or maybe this is the best way to articulate romance. Who is to decide?? Not the ones on the streets protesting romance. Well all credit goes to the entrepreneurs who turned a saint into a profit-making venture. Well whether its love or the idea of love that sells, I for one do feel left out writing this at this hour when I should have been with my valentine.
