Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Revenue Minister Kamal Patel is in trouble. The state High Court Tuesday ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged murder of a Congress leader’s son for which Patel’s son is accused.
The Madhya Pradesh Police have named Sudeep Patel, the minister’s son, and his friends for the killing of of Gajendra, son of Rajendra Patel, a senior Congress leader.
The Jabalpur High Court bench, comprising Justice A K Patnaik and Justice Ajit Singh, ordered a CBI inquiry to probe the matter.
The decision has come at a time when the state assembly elections are round the corner and Kamal Patel is contesting on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nomination ticket from Harda.
In March, Sudeep and his friends allegedly barged into Harda district Congress leader’s house during which an exchange of fire took place between them and the family members, according to the police.
Rajendra in his complaint to the police said: “Sudeep came with his friends to my home and asked me to withdraw corruption charges against his father Kamal Patel. When I refused, he fired several rounds from his Mauser (hand-gun).”
Gajendra, who was injured in the firing, went missing during the melee and the father suspected that his son was dead and Sudeep and his friends disposed of the body.
Rajendra later filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court asking for a CBI probe into the incident.
