The Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested a man after a video of him torturing a dog went viral on social media. The video was posted by the accused himself on Facebook where he can be seen swinging the dog by its legs and then throwing him.
The video sparked an online campaign condemning the accused.
The accused is a resident of Vivek Vihar in East Delhi.
Shehzad Poonawalla, an activist, said the video is shocking. "I am glad that this man has been arrested and I want to thank Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. I hope he isn't let out on bail. I have asked that the man be booked under section 428 and 429 under the Cruelty to Animals Act which is punishable upto 5 years. We demand stricter provisions and rules be put in place," Poonawalla said.
