Man held for torturing dog after video goes viral on social media

New Delhi: The Delhi police on Wednesday arrested a man after a video of him torturing a dog went viral on social media.

The man is a resident of Vivek Vihar in East Delhi. The video, posted by the accused himself on Facebook, captures him initially cuddling a stray dog and later, torturing it by whirling it around holding one of its legs and throwing it mercilessly at a parked car.

After coming across the video on Facebook, lawyer and columnist Shehzad Poonawalla began an online campaign to shame the man. The campaign was aided by the NGO Policy Samvad.
