New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly trying to rape a five-year-old girl who had gone to see Ramlila in Amar Colony area of southeast Delhi. The accused identified as Bablu was caught red handed by family members of the girl from near a railway track and handed him over to police.
Police has booked Bablu, who works as a part time labourer, under relevant sections of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The incident comes close on the heels of the rape of a two-and-half-year-old girl by two juveniles who had gone to see the Ramlila in west Delhi's Nihal Vihar area.
According to a senior police official, the girl in this case had gone to watch a Ramlila performance organised near her home with her friends from the neighbourhood area in Amar Colony's Shrinivas Puri.
"The accused who lives in the same locality, lured the girl on the pretext of giving her toffees and took her towards railway track in the area. Other children who accompanied the girl immediately raised an alarm and informed the parents of the girl about she being seen going towards the railway track with Bablu. They informed the police and the family members rushed to the spot and found Bablu with the girl," said the official.
The girl was crying when the family spotted them. The family members beat him (Bablu) up before being handing him over to the police, the official added.
