Madurai (Tamil Nadu):A man holding a knife tried to come near Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin at a railway station in Madurai on Tuesday.
A CRPF constable stopped the man and prevented him from reaching Stalin, who is the son of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
The man was moving in a crowd of DMK supporters gathered at the station to receive Stalin. The constable first raised an alarm but then pounced on the man when he wasn’t heard in the din.
The man allegedly stabbed the constable in the hands and fled. The constable is being treated for his injuries and police are investigating the incident.
"We are not in a position to say whether anyone attempted to stab the minister or assault him or whether the man was just carrying the knife for some other purpose," officials said.
A complaint has been lodged with the Railway Police.
