THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A public convention demanding a moratorium on capital punishment will he held here on November 28.The convention is a follow-up to the various programmes organised by the Moratorium on Death Penalty Movement. The committee has also decided to submit a memorandum signed by prominent personalities in this regard to state and central governments. A team has also been formed to plan further programmes for the cause. Dileepraj, J Sandhya, K KChandran, K Premkumar, Jayapalan, Raveendran, Sugathan Paul, H S Sooraj, K Govindaraj, B Gireesh, K Rajmohan, K Babu, George, Deepa Vasudevan, Ranjini Krishnan and K P Sethunathan are the committee members.A meeting organised by the committee here the other day said that Travancore had the democratic tradition of banning capital punishment. In the wake of the ban on capital punishment in several countries, India should consider its stand, the committee meeting opined. K Gireeshkumar presided over the meeting.
