Miscreants hurl bombs, 7 injured

BERHAMPUR: Tension ran high in Santoshopur village under Rambha police limits on Thursday after a group of miscreants hurled bombs at villagers.Police said while a meeting was underway in the village, a group of miscreants hurled country bombs at the participating villagers. As many as seven persons were injured.Police rushed to the spot.They also seized some live bombs from the area. In separate incidents in Pitatali and Radhamohanpur under Chikiti block, as many as 20 persons were injured.After the counting of the third phase poll, the BJD workers were busy in celebration at Pitatali on Thursday morning when some Congress workers allegedly hurled bombs at them. Around 10 persons were injured. Police rushed to the village and arrested seven persons. Two separate cases have been registered.At Radhamohanpur, another 10 persons were injured in a clash between people of two groups over support to a particular political party. The injured were admitted to the Chikiti hospital.One Murdered, Houses Damaged in RetaliationIn a post-poll violence, one person was killed and seven houses were damaged in Dihapadhal village under Bhanjanagar police limits on Thursday. Reports said some BJD supporters allegedly killed a Congress supporter, Dutikrushna Gouda (33). Following Gouda’s death, his supporters ransacked the houses of BJD supporters.However, presence of SOG jawans in the area helped avert further clashes. The police have arrested eight persons from both sides.Meanwhile, protesting the arrests the Congress activists blocked the village road while the supporters of BJD blocked the Bhanjanagar- Berhampur road.The blockades were lifted after Bhanjanagar sub-collector and the SDPO reached the spot and assured both parties of action against the culprits.
