New Delhi: The much awaited monsoon reached Delhi-NCR on Thursday bringing down temperatures in the national capital. The rains brought some respite from a torrid summer.

The Met department has said that the south west monsoon has further advanced into the whole of Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.

The showers inundated some low-lying areas in the twin states of Haryana and Punjab with several city roads waterlogged in Chandigarh on Wednesday. Rainfall also occurred in Rajasthan on Wednesday where Kajuwala recorded rainfall of 40mm in the last 24 hours. Bikaner, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts got 10-30mm rain. Monsoon is expected to cover whole of Rajasthan by July 6 or 7.

The country has witnessed a weakened monsoon this year with June receiving 43 per cent less rainfall than normal. However, the Met department has said that July is likely to be less parched.

Cotton farmers in Gujarat are worried with the rains yet to set in the cotton belt of the state.
