THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the little ones, it was a day meant to know more about the space and the solar system. The celebrations organised by the Thiruvananthapuram South URC under SSA on Thursday in memory of man setting foot on moon on July 21, 1969, saw a celestial treat being spread out for the children of the schools falling under the URC.The Moon Landing Day meeting held at Kalady Government School was inaugurated by the URC programme officer Noble Norbert. While M Ajithkumar led a session on the sun and celestial bodies, they also got to see the videos which showed the clippings of man’s first mission to the moon. The first screening of ‘Wonder Of the Millennium’, a short science fiction written and directed by K Swaminathan, a teacher of Kalady School, was also held. It gave them information about the longest annular solar eclipse of the millennium and also about solar eclipse in general. An exhibition of space-related articles and news and a quiz contest were also conducted. Anju A S (Government UPS, Karumam) and Anjana V K (Government HSS, Cotton Hill) emerged winners in the quiz. PTA president K Sreekumari presided over the function. K Sreekumar, a parent who made a telescope for the school, was felicitated.
