Incessant monsoon rains have severely affected life in Mumbai, and the city’s challenges are expected to worsen with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy showers for the next 2-3 days.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and has forecast heavy rainfall over the city on Monday. The Met Department has issued an orange alert for July 23.
Heavy showers are continuing to batter the financial capital since Sunday morning. Mumbai and its suburbs received over 100 mm of rainfall in 12 hours till 8 PM on July 21.

Heavy rains have triggered waterlogging and affected local train and road traffic across the city. Several flights were diverted due to bad weather.
Heavy showers are likely over several regions across Maharashtra. The IMD has predicted very heavy rains over Raigad, Ratnagiri and Satara districts.
IMD has issued a yellow alert for 16 districts in Maharashtra Thane, Pune, Palghar and Nagpur.
Holiday Declared in Schools
Amid the heavy rainfall warning, the administration has declared a holiday for schools on Monday in Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts in Vidarbha region and four tehsils in Raigad district in the coastal belt of Maharashtra.
NDRF Teams Deployed Across Maharashtra
Meanwhile, NDRF teams have been deployed across Maharashtra amid the heavy rainfall warning. Other than regular deployment at Mumbai and Nagpur, NDRF teams have been deployed at Vasai (Palghar), Thane, Ghatkopar, Powai( Kurla), Mahad(Raigad), Khed and Chiplun (Ratnagiri), Kudal (Sindhudurg), Kolhapur, Sangli and Satara.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has asked officials to be on high alert in light of heavy rains in several parts of Maharashtra.
The State Disaster Response Force, the local administration, civic bodies, police, etc, should take regular updates on the weather from the India Meteorological Department and plan accordingly to provide relief to citizens, he said.
