Mumbai Techie Returns From US, Finds Mother's Skeleton

Mumbai: A Mumbai techie working in the US, who last spoke to his mother over the phone a year ago, arrived home on Sunday to find it locked — and his mother's skeleton inside.

Rituraj Sahani broke open the door at his Lokhandwala residence because it was latched from inside and found the decomposed body of his 63-year-old mother lying on the floor fully dressed.

“When the son arrived from the US, he first rang the bell of the flat where his mother used to stay alone. After repeated attempts, when he got no response, he broke the door and was shocked to see his mother’s decomposed body,” said a police officer investigating the case.

Police said prima facie it looked like the woman, Asha Sahani, died of natural causes as the door was locked from inside. They were waiting for the post mortem report to ascertain the actual cause of death.

An investigating officer said Rituraj had last spoken to his mother over the phone in April 2016 and that was when she told him she wanted to shift to an old age home as she was feeling lonely. Media reports said she was staying alone in that flat since the death of her husband in 2013.
