Music Review: Taylor Swift's Fearless
Music Review: Taylor Swift's Fearless
Taylor Swift writes most of the lyrics she sings.

Standing tall among her contemporaries, Taylor Swift has the kind of voice you'd naturally expect with the kind of face she has. After she hit it big with Tim McGraw and bigger with her self-titled debut, many critics sat up to see what Taylor Swift was all about.

Swift writes most of the lyrics she sings, I don't know if you can expect that from Britney Spears. And unlike other girls her age trying to become or remain teen pop queens, Swift variates just about enough, never going too far off the road where topics to sing about are concerned. Not a bad thing at all, really - better if she sticks to crooning about some guy, being at a certain age, some guy, love, and that damn lucky guy.

Fifteen is about being at that age, with four more years in school. Love Story is nice stuff - maybe because I can imagine my girl singing it to me.

"All those other girls/well, they're beautiful but would they write a song for you?", she asks some dude on Hey Stephen. Any dude must be a fool to not fall for that.

The maturity levels shoot up on White Horse. Swift is a girl who has come to terms with a bitter heartbreak, and here comes You Belong To Me - another song I want my girl to sing to me!

The lyrics vary between these situations - either promising endless love or letting the heartbreaker know he isn't on the scene anymore. Young girls who've obviously experienced both crushes and being crushed will relate to Taylor's lyrics. As for me, I feel safe listening to the sweet songs with happy fairytale endings here.

Even though the topics broached on Fearless are typical, this girl does it like nobody else. She goes deeper than the others and beyond what is expected from women her age. Taylor Swift is way ahead of any other teen pop singer there is, and in a better place than wannabe singing sensations older than her.

VERDICT

Can you picture a 27 year old heavy metal-worshipping male feeling all nice-nice listening to this girly teeny bop country-pop? Teenage girls, your folks won't mind if you idolise Taylor Swift.

RATING: 3/5
