CHENNAI: The annual Panguni Peruvizha of Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore will begin on March 28 with flag hoisting. A major attraction of the 10-day Panguni celebrations, the ‘Arupathumoovar Vizha,’ in which the idols of the 63 Shaivite saints would be taken around the streets of Mylapore in a colourful procession, would be held on April 4. Also, the ‘Vidayatri Kalai Vizha’ will be held between April 8 and 17 in which spiritual discourses, music and dance programmes will be held. Speaking to reporters here, AT Paranjothi, deputy commissioner of the temple, said special pujas will be offered to Arulmigu Kolavizhiamman, the village deity, before the flag hoisting ceremony on March 27.The chariot procession will begin at 7.30 am on April 3. On April 4, the reenactment ceremony of the resurrection of Poompavai by saint Thirugnana Sambandar will be performed. Stating that all steps had been taken to provide amenities to the visiting devotees throughout the festival season, the official said everyday from March 28 to April 6, Tirumurai and Vedic chanting would be done in the temple and procession of deities taken out. While Bombay Jayashri, N Vijay Siva, TM Krishna, Ambika Buch and Malladi brothers would give vocal performances, Vidha Lal and Deepika Reddy would stage dance programmes between April 8 and 18.
