Mysore-Bangalore rail commuters feel heat

Disruption in rail services between Mysore and Bangalore owing to the ongoing Cauvery agitation is causing inconvenience to thousands of garment workers, office-goers and students.

The 100 mile distance between Bangalore and Mysore is one of the most crowded routes on the Indian Railway map with more than half a lakh passengers travelling  daily.

Close to 20,000 passengers commute with railway passes. A majority of them is settled in Mysore and travel to Bangalore for work. According to Chief Commercial Manager of  Mysore Division, South Western Railway, Anup Dayanand Sadhu there is a 20 per cent surge in passenger traffic on this route following the Cauvery crisis.

 R K Rao, a government employee, commuting between the cities since the last two decades said that even the slightest disturbance on the route is bound to affect  people. Boraiah, a typist working in Weights and Measures Department in Mysore and living in Maddur said that on several occasions during this crisis, he was forced to apply for casual leave or forgo salary.

Ramesh, a hotel employee in Mysore who travels from Mandya felt that the protestors must at least spare the railway line as it will affect common man. “I can’t afford bus tickets with the salary I draw,” he said.
