New Delhi: While the year 2005 saw the lowest movie attendance in eight years, Hollywood cheered the New Year weekend with The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe toppling King Kong during the four-day holiday.
Adventure packed Narnia grabbed an estimated $32.8 million during the four-day holiday, followed by King Kong with $31.6 million.
An adaptation of CS Lewis's Narnia stories, the movie is a must watch for those who checked the backs of their closets or crawled into wardrobes as a child!
At $21 million, Fun with Dick and Jane took the third place, pushing PG-rated comedy Cheaper by the Dozen to the fourth spot with $19.3 million.
Meanwhile, with big movies like Mission: Impossible 3, Superman Returns, The Da Vinci Code, X-Men 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and the animated tales Cars and Over the Hedge waiting for release in the Hollywood closet, 2006 is sure to be one hell of a year for movie buffs.
