National Award for craftsmen

CHENNAI: The Development Commissionerate for Handicrafts in New Delhi has called for artisans to apply for the National Awards for Master Craftsmen. A release called on artists to present their work along with the requisite application formalities in person, at the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Handicrafts) at Anna Salai, by May 21, 2012.The National Award for Master Craftsmen is a prestigious honour given every year by the President. It comprises a citation, a shawl and a cash award of `1,00,000.The release also stated that the artisans have the option of having their work inspected and certified at their workshops itself, by officials, and also seek guidance.
