HYDERABAD: A national policy on tribal empowerment should be formulated with the involvement of tribal leaders, demanded additional commissioner for labour H K Nagu. Speaking at the celebrations of ‘World Tribal Day’ conducted by Girijana Aikya Vedika (GAV) here on Tuesday, he said in 1987 the United Nations (UN) general assembly announced the World Tribal Day on August 9 to celebrate and work on the development of indigenous people of every country.“More than half the countries of the world are observing World Tribal Day and are conducting review meetings on their tribal development projects. They have also taken resolutions for working on further projects for tribal development, but in India it is not being held even after two decades of the UN announcement,” he added.Advocate V Sruthi Devi demanded that Adivasi languages should be incorporated in the 8th schedule of the constitution.
