Kolkata: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the Burdwan blast has claimed that it is being targeted after a crude bomb was thrown near its office in the CRPF camp in Kolkata on Monday where the agency is stationed.
The NIA has claimed that the blast was orchestrated as they are close to cracking the Burdwan blast case. It also said that this could be a threat or a kind of an intimidation tactic used by people who are linked to this terror module and that possibilities cannot be ruled out which the police.
The NIA is currently holding in its custody several key suspected terrorists who are alleged to have played a role in the terror module. The investigating agency has also said that it is in the process of arresting the other fugitives terrorists who are currently on the run.
West Bengal Police and NIA have achieved two major breakthroughs in the past three days by arresting top commanders of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladeh (JMB) including Sajid on Saturday and Amjad Sheikh on Monday.
The bomb on Monday was thrown at an entry gate 50 yards away from NIA station in CRPF camp. The minor explosion damaged a boundary wall. However, no injuries have been reported. Sources in the Home Ministry said that traces of gun powder were found at the spot. As per the prima facie evidence, it is being said that the blast has been carried out by ordinary criminals.
Additional Commissioner of Police Debashish Dhar said, "There was an explosion around 6:30 PM. Preliminary investigation shows there was a sutli bomb, we will do a chemical test to know the composition."
