New Delhi: Indian mythology-laced comic bestseller The Sadhu is all set to appear on the big screen with Oscar-winning actor Nicholas Cage in the lead and the screenplay for the film is being written by best-selling author Deepak Chopra.

Cage is working with Virgin Comics to develop the Indian themed comic book, said Virgin Comics Chief Executive, Sharad Devarajan.

Cage is developing the story for film to play the lead character James Jensen - a Britisher who submerges himself into the mystical traditions of the Indian Sadhus and then returns to London with supernatural abilities, Devarajan said.

The Sadhu is a story of the dormant potentialities - both divine and diabolical - that exist in all of us.

It is also about the struggle between the sacred and the profane within all of us when archetypal energies awaken in our consciousness.

As a performer, Cage embodies the soul of these archetypal energies, said Deepak Chopra.

The Sadhu is a bold, visual epic that taps into one of India’s most heralded spiritual traditions. It is exciting to have someone of Cage’s star power in the film, said Devarajan.

Besides acting in the film, Cage is also co-writing a voodoo-heavy comic book Enigma with his 15-year-old son Weston for Virgin.
