Even as the controversy over Kudumbashree is yet to subside, Finance Minister K M Mani has said that nobody should claim the parentage of Kudumbashree Mission.It is an initiative of the state government, he said while inaugurating the valedictory function of the ‘Pusthakayathras’ which began from Kasargod and Thiruvananthapuram at Marine Drive here on Monday.
Mani said that the Kudumbashree movement is a great social revolution India has seen of late. “The role played by Kudumbashree is significant in alleviating poverty at the grassroots level.
It has brought about a revolutionary change not only in the service sector but in the production sector also,” he said. The minister said that to achieve inclusive growth in the economy, each woman in the Kudumbashree should be emancipated.
“`125 crore has been earmarked for Kudumbashree this year. Besides, the government has also decided to write off housing loans of Kudumbashree members,” Mani said. Mani exhorted Kudumbashree members to come forward to resolve the waste management issue in the state.
The state government is offering attractive subsidies in this regard. If Kudumbashree can come forward to take up installing biogas plants, it can help resolve the issue of garbage menace and shortage of liquefied petroleum gas. Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayat M K Muneer, who presided over the function, said that as a part of the expansion of Kudumbashree Mission, the government is planning to provide pension to those Kudumbashree members above 60 years. The government will also implement an insurance scheme for Kudumbashree members,” he said. Muneer said that the government is not able to uplift marginalised sections of society including fishermen, and people belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes to the main stream. By 2013, they will also be made part of the Co-operative Development Society (CDS).
