The prosecution counsel is expected to send a 'no objection' certificate to the governor of Dammam after which Naushad will return to India.

New Delhi: The stage is set for the release of Indian national Naushad who was jailed in Saudi Arabia after a Sharia court slapped him with an eye-for-an-eye punishment for attacking a Saudi three years ago.

According to Naushad's wife, Suhaila, the Indian embassy officials have confirmed that the Sharia court in Dammam had put its stamp of approval on the legal formalities sparing Naushad.

Now, the prosecution counsel is expected to send a 'no objection' certificate to the governor of Dammam.

The sole breadwinner of the family, Naushad had gone to Saudi Arabia a decade ago and secured a job in a petrol station in Dammam.

Misfortune struck three years back, when he got into a scuffle with a Saudi national over a battery charger.

The Saudi man took Naushad to court for having injured his right eye. The court ordered that Naushad’s right eye be gouged out under the Sharia law.

However, with the media flashing Naushad's story, the Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia took up the matter with the authorities there.

Last month, Suhaila and her two children visited Delhi to petition the Saudi King who was the chief guest during the Republic Day celebrations.
