New Delhi: The plane crash into a Manhattan skyrise brought fears of 9/11 rushing back into the minds of the eyewitnesses.

While US authorities ruled the possibility of the incident being a terrorist attack, panic and chaos was palpable on NY streets.

"We at Federal Emergency Management Authority (FEMA) typically do not respond to incidents like these unless President deems it necessary. There have been two casualties. So, FEMA won't comment on this," said Press Secretary, Department of Homeland Security, Aaron Walker.

Here's what some of the eyewitnesses had to say:

"The building shook. We halted near the elevator and shouted for others stuck in there. We were a group of four and by the time we reached 42nd floor, there were just flames and smoke in the hallway. We tried looking for more people who could be stuck, but found none. That's when we decided to get out of there," said an eyewitness.

"At least 10 apartments were up in smoke and plane splinters could be seen everywhere, even on the streets," said a girl who was witness to the drama from the street.

"When I first saw it, I thought it was terrorism. I shouted to people to call the police. Everyone was busy calling on their cell phones, I wanted to tell them to call the police," said another eyewitness.
