The Odisha government has set up a tunnel-like air-conditioned (AC) corridor for devotees waiting in queue in front of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, following criticism from the devotees over poor crowd management outside the Srimandir.
Anticipating high footfall on the new year at the Shree Jagannath temple, the state administration has geared up all its resources to ensure the timely observance of rituals.
In case darshan is closed, a devotee can wait in the AC tunnel barricade which is positioned every 24 meters. The tunnel is also covered with a transparent fabric. At the barricade in the Baddandpatku AC tunnel, the first line is for disabled and the next line is reserved for senior citizens.
Darshan at Shree Jagannath temple is regulated from Market Street with a shed, followed by AC tunnel from Marchikot Street and since then at regular intervals different relief points are set up for the devotees.
Five rows of steel barricades are placed in the dedicated corridor to facilitate the easy flow of devotees. In addition, other facilities like drinking water, resting areas for elderly and frail devotees are a part of the tunnel.
STATE SPECIAL DRIVE
A special drive was conducted at the temple to keep the premises of the complex clean and hygienic, while the security arrangements have also been beefed up.
At least twenty platoons of police personnel have been deployed in and around the temple. The area between the Marichikot to the temple main gate is surounded with special barricade and CCTV cameras at strategic places to monitor the crowd movement and avert any mishap.
The pale pink colored tall building, bright lights, AC tunnels for crowd control and unhindered darshan inside the temple during the outer wooden darshan has given a big relief to devotees.
