Helsinki: The E coli bacterial infection is fast spreading across Europe, with one case diagnosed in Finland, Xinhua reported.
The E coli infection was detected in the capital city of Helsinki, the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare said on Friday.
The properties of the bacteria found in the patient were similar to those shown by the deadly bacteria in Germany. The patient had been on a visit to Germany recently, the institute said.
Mari Kanerva, infection specialist from the institute, asked those who had travelled to Germany to follow instructions from local authorities.
"If you have bloody diarrhoea after a trip to Germany, then you should seek help from a health centre immediately," Kanerva said.
The epidemic caused by the deadly E coli bacteria, which was first identified in Germany last week, has killed 17 Germans and one Swede and infected over 2,000 people in 12 European countries.
