Teachers to give wake-up calls to parents at 5 am in Mangalore district
The teachers will ask the parents to wake their child up to study early in the morning.

Mangalore: The parents of the children who are studying in 10th standard will get a wake up call from their teachers at 5 o'clock in the morning from next month. The teachers will ask if their child has woken up or still asleep. If the child is still sleeping, the teachers will ask the parents to wake him or her up to study early in the morning.

It is not a private initiative. It is a Government of Karnataka initiative to improve the results in 10th standard. The Dakshina Kannada district (head quarter is at Mangalore) fared badly in the last year's 10th standard examination conducted by the State High School Education Board.

State Primary and Secondary education minister Kimmane Ratnakar who recently visited the district has asked the district officials to perform this novel experiment. He wants the district to achieve 100 per cent results in the current academic year.

Each school has already divided the students among the teachers and the teacher concerned will be responsible for the 'wake-up' call and the progress of the children under their watch. The teachers have also been instructed to spend two extra hours for the students who are not good at studies.

The government has asked the parents to keep their mobile phones on if they don't have a landline at home.

Dakshina Kannada is the most prosperous district in Karnataka and one of the top 5 prosperous districts in India. Its per capita income is very high and it is a 100 per cent literate district with 100 per cent telephone connection and 100 per cent bank accounts.

It also has the lowest number of people living below poverty line (BPL) in India.
