The Education Department has launched an online system to process the pre-matric scholarship of students, including identifying of eligible students. It is an online system that can process the information of 14 lakh students at a time, said DPI A Shajahan.
The students of government, aided, unaided, CBSE and ICSE schools belonging to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi minorities can apply for the scholarship through the online software, developed by IT@School project.
A press statement from the DPI said that the manual processing of the records, which were to the tune of lakhs, had been giving the officials a testing time. The Department had been striving to meet the deadline too. That was why the department decided to automate the process for effecting quality delivery, it said.
The data entry for the process is presently on and in 15 days the eligible students would be selected. The website www.scholarship.itschool.gov.in is being used for the online process.
The system provides facility for data entry at DEO level, thus making the data entry part error-free. The data entry part is done offline and then the data is integrated into the online system. Once the offline data is uploaded to the database, the DEOs would verify the data in a meticulous manner. The system also provides data security by limiting the access of each user to the data they require. Various reports could also be generated which makes it easier to list all those students who have attained the scholarship, says the website of the DPI.
The bank account of the schools have also been added which enables transfer of scholarship to the school account without delay. This would also enable the headmasters and educational officers to check the list of students and information regarding them. The renewal of scholarships would also become an easy affair now. The various levels of processing of the scholarships could be monitored by the officials concerned and its progress checked with the new system.
