Kolkata: Keeping his options open on the City Civil Court's decision to appoint an observer for the July 30 Cricket Association of Bengal elections, its president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday welcomed the ruling in principle, but refused to divulge whether he would move a higher court.
"I think you're asking me too many questions in advance. I cannot commit myself on whether I would move a higher court or not till I get a copy of the judgement," Dalmiya said.
Dalmiya, however, said in principle he had no objection on the appointment of an observer.
"It's upto the court. It may appoint any number of observers it wants," Dalmiya said.
On the claim of the opposition that the court decision signalled a victory for them, Dalmiya jokingly said, "I agree. But they should know that the CAB election will be determined only by a secret ballot."
Earlier in the day, the court appointed Justice (retired) Santosh Kumar Foujdar as independent observer for the CAB elections, on an application by the anti-Dalmiya group.
Chief judge P K Sarkar, appointing Justice Foujdar as the observer, directed that the existing rules of the CAB in connection with its elections would apply and in case of a dispute or any grey area in the rules, the decision of the observer would be final.
The counsels of Dalmiya had expressed unhappiness with the court ruling.
