Kochi: Pakistan has to act strongly to eliminate terrorism as Osama bin Laden's death is not the end of the menace, French Ambassador to India Jerome Bonnafont said on Thursday.
"France has always said that Pakistan, which is faced with the question of terrorism, has to act strongly in order to eliminate terrorism. We are ready to cooperate with Pakistan to eliminate terrorism. That is the message our authorities are giving to Pakistan," he said.
"Besides we have always praised India and Pakistan for their capacity to start again the dialogue to establish relations on the basis of diplomacy and dialogue to sort out the issues," he told reporters on board the two French vessels - FNS Mistral and FNS George Leygues - which arrived in Kochi on Thursday morning on a three-day visit.
Vice Admiral Marin Gillier, Commander of the French Navy in Indian Ocean (Alindien) is also in Kochi.
The Ambassador and Vice Admiral Gillier accompanied by the Commanding Officers of the visiting ships met Vice Admiral KN Sushil, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command on a courtesy call on Thursday.
Several interactions including professional, social and sports fixtures have been scheduled between the two navies over the next three days. The French Ships will leave Kochi on May 8.
