New Delhi: The chargesheet by Pakistan against the lone terrorist caught alive in the Mumbai terror attacks, Ajmal Amir Kasab, would be the first step by Islamabad in accepting India's terror dossier linking the Mumbai attacks with elements in Pakistan.
However, hours after reports of a case being filed were leaked to the Pakistani media, Pakistan Interior Ministry chief Rahman Mallik denied that any case had been filed against Kasab . The denial and flip-flop is nothing new for Pakistan.
In December 2008, Pakistan first denied and then admitted it had raided the Lashkar-e-Toiba Headquarters in Pakistan occupied Kashmir's Muzzafarabad.
Also in December, a week after the Defence Minister announced that Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar had been put under house arrest, the Foreign Ministry announced it had no idea where Azhar was.
The most famous flip flop came when the former Pakistani national security adviser said Ajmal Kasab was a Pakistani national. He was sacked but the Foreign Ministry admitted Kasab's nationality later. Earlier, Kasab's family was produced, but then disappeared from their village in Faridkot.
And Wednesday's flip-flop came as no surprise. Local officials say they have filed a case against Kasab and 13 others, a charge which the Home Minister reportedly denied.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's Information Minister Sherry Rehman said that as of now no case has been registered against Kasab.
"No such cases have been registered right now. It is still under consideration and the meeting regarding such a case will be held on either Wednesday or Thursday. It will be on the basis of FIA's investigations, but right now no cases," she said.
