KOCHI: Works Minister V K Ebrahimkunju has said that the patch works of all roads in the state will be carried out in three weeks. Other maintenance works like resurfacing will be completed by November 30.To carry out the repair and other patch works on roads, the state government has earmarked Rs 314.51 crore. This amount has been allocated in addition to the Rs 470 crore which has been allocated earlier, the minister said. The government will also take over MDR and ODR roads covering 8,570 km from local self-governments. Apart from these, Rs 15 crore has been allocated to carry out the maintenance of major roads in five Corporations - Rs 42.48 crore for Thiruvananthapuram, Rs 9.44 crore for Kollam, Rs 31.54 crore for Kochi, Rs 35.10 crore for Thrissur and Rs 40.60 crore for Kozhikode. Under the proposal, the PWD Department will carry out maintenance work only on roads having a tarring width of 3.7 meters and those roads which have at least one of their ends connecting major roads. The state government has granted Rs 63.6 crore for the maintenance and patch work of Sabarimala roads and other related roads. The work will be carried out in two phases. The process to float tenders in this regard has been completed. The basic patch works will be completed by October 31, before the beginning of Sabarimala season. Measures were also initiated by the state government to carry out heavy maintenance works in Sabarimala roads after the pilgrimage season. An amount of Rs 58.29 crore was allocated for this purpose. Three roads will be elevated to international standards. Mannarakulanji - Pamba road, Kannamala - Elavunkal Road, Kanjirappalli - Erumeli Road and Kannamal bridge will be renovated. The roads have been given the guarantee period of five years.An amount of Rs 20 crore has been allotted to carry out the maintenance works of national highways. As the state government has allotted the amount for the purpose, the works will be completed on a time bound basis, the minister said.
