THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government is going ahead with the admission process to 50 per cent of postgraduate medical seats taken over from self-financing medical college managements (SFMCs) by scheduling the first round of allotment from July 28.The fees for the seats will be as fixed by the Justice Mohammed Committee the other day. Earlier this month, ending the row over admission to postgraduate courses in SFMCs in the state, the UDF Government had taken over 50 per cent of seats as state quota to be filled from the state entrance rank list. The government had also cancelled the admissions conducted by managements to these seats. The issue became a controversy with reports of the kin of two ministers obtaining management quota seats in SFMCs. Through an order, the government quashed admissions made by 10 SMFCs to the government quota seats. When the issue snowballed, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb announced that his son would give up the PG seat obtained at Jubilee Medical College, Thrissur. Facing a similar situation, Health Minister Adoor Prakash also decided to give up the seat allotted to his daughter in the CPM controlled Pariyaram Cooperative Medical College. The selffinancing medical college managements had protested against the government move to acquire over 50 per cent of PG seats.
