CUTTACK: The 19-year-old Pipili victim was on Monday put on ventilator support following deterioration in her condition. The alleged victim girl, who is under treatment in the Central ICU of the SCB Medical College and Hospital, is stated to have developed respiratory problems. She had to be put on life support system as the multi-disciplinary team of doctors stepped up efforts to revive her. The girl had been in a vegetative state since November last year when she was allegedly strangulated. That had caused permanent brain damage. She has been diagnosed with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy caused by lack of oxygen flow to brain due to partial hanging or strangulation. She has been in the SCB since January 13 and put under the care of a high-level team of doctors drawn from various disciplines as Medicine, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics and Anaesthesia. Experts from external institutions as AIIMS have also been roped in to aid her treatment. However, there has been no significant improvement in her condition. She continues to be in a semi-comatose stage though she is sometimes seen to be opening her eyes and responding to verbal commands.“The 12-member expert team is trying its best to revive her,” said a senior doctor.
