Post Dey murder, cops warn criminals, gangsters
On Sunday, police arrested seven persons, including Chhota Rajan aide Satish Kalya, for J Dey's murder.

Mumbai: The daylight murder of senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey has prompted Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik to ask all police stations in the metropolis to update the list of criminals and gangsters and send them a stern message that any "nuisance" from them will not be tolerated.

In a conference held on Thursday by the top cop with senior police officials, Patnaik talked about "zero tolerance" policy towards criminals. He told his colleagues to send a strong message to the gangsters and criminals by initiating stern action against them, police officials said.

"Honourable Commissioner has taken the incident (Dey's murder) very seriously. He instructed all police branches and police stations to update the list of criminals and gangsters in order to initiate appropriate action against them," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy.

"He (Patnaik) has asked us to keep a tab on the movement of criminals," he added.

Another top official, who attended the meet, told PTI on condition of anonymity that "Patnaik told us to send the gangsters a strong message that their nuisance cannot be tolerated."

Dey (56), working with the city-based English tabloid Mid-Day, was shot dead by four motorcycle-borne assailants in suburban Powai on June 11.

The journalist was eliminated at the behest of underworld don Chhota Rajan, who paid Rs 5 lakh to the accused for the job, police said.

On Sunday, police arrested seven persons, including Rajan aide Satish Kalya (34), for Dey's murder.
