In fresh trouble for Andhra Pradesh government, already grappling with unrelenting stir by employees in Seemandhra region, the pro-united Andhra Pradesh employees at state Secretariat on Thursday announced indefinite strike from September 2 midnight.

The employees, who have been agitating against the proposed division of Andhra Pradesh, gave a notice in this regard to Chief Secretary on Thursday and said they would gradually step up their stir till September 2.

The administration work has already been affected in the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions due to ongoing strike by the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers (APNGOS) Association since August 12.

The employees, belonging to several departments, are demanding Centre to withdraw its decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh for creation of separate Telangana state. Teachers had announced their plan to begin their strike from Friday. The government employees from Telangana and Seemandhra regions have come to face off at several government offices in the last several days and police had to intervene to prevent any flare up.  Meanwhile, protests continued across Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions in support of united Andhra Pradesh.

The agitators held road blockades and organised rallies, human chains, sit-ins, hunger strikes among other forms of protests. The counselling (verification of certificates) for admission into engineering and other professional courses was either put off or disrupted at several places in Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra regions due to agitations.
