PUDUCHERRY: Questions were raised on the proposal to set up a 1 MW solar power plant in the private sector instead of the government sector.A hearing on suggestions and objections on ‘Fuel and Solar Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA)’ formula for distribution license, was organised by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission here on Friday. At the hearing chaired by V K Garg, Chairman of the Commission, speakers said that Saheli Exports, the project developer, had requested a tariff of Rs 20.50/kwh. But the Electricity Department of Puducherry can buy it only at Rs 5.50/kwh against a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) on mutually agreed terms (to be approved by the Commission), and the balance would be reimbursed by Indian Renewable Energy Agency. Instead, the government itself can utilise the subsidy to set up the power plant, stakeholders said. It was also pointed out that solar power plants should not be set up on farm lands. They also demanded that the Electricity Department charge cable TV operators for using electricity poles while providing cable connections . A similar public hearing will be held in Karaikal on Saturday.
