Radicalised Mumbai youth returns to India, NIA registers FIR for joining banned terrorist group ISIS

Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday night registered an FIR against Arif Majeed, one of the four youths who had left their Mumbai homes to join terror group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and ISIS itself under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code (IPC) for joining the banned terrorist group.
Majeed, who returned to India on Friday was detained by the NIA and interrogated. The accused, an engineering graduate, was brought back by NIA from Turkey and was questioned by the NIA.
Sources said Majeed was highly radicalised and showed no signs of remorse. He said he had joined the Islamic State to serve the cause of Allah. Majeed got indoctrinated through web-based Jehadi literature. He had expressed desire to join Islamic State on their website.
Majeed and three others left their homes and joined the terror group in Iraq. The four are said to have left notes begging forgiveness from their families and insisting that they had to join the cause of jihad.
A report had revealed that ISIS was using the Indian Mujahideen to recruit poor Muslims in India. Central security agencies revealed that ISIS was targeting the youth in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Jammu and Kashmir.
Earlier this month, Majeed had called up family members and expressed his desire to return. He was believed to have died as his family had received a call in the month of August confirming his death.
CNN-IBN had reported on Tuesday that the four youngsters wanted to return to the country.
ISIS is fighting a deadly battle in Iraq and Syria where it has killed lakhs of people in a deadly pursuit to establish an Islamic Caliphate.
